
Panel discussion: Opportunities and challenges for agriculture globally
The challenges and opportunities facing agriculture globally will be discussed during a special Rural Press Club of Victoria webinar.
The webinar will feature of panel of farmers and industry experts from the US, UK, New Zealand and Australia including American Farm Bureau executive vice president and former US Department of Agriculture chief of staff Dale Moore, Federated Farmers of New Zealand president Andrew Hoggard and UK farmer and social media influencer Tom Martin.
The webinar will be moderated by Victorian Farmers Federation vice president Emma Germano.
The Rural Press Club of Victoria plans to conduct a series of webinars in the coming months as COVID-19 restricts its ability to host lunches and networking opportunities. The webinars are free of charge.

Meet our expert panelists

Dale Moore
American Farm Bureau Federation executive vice president
A former US Department of Agriculture chief of staff, Dale Moore has more than 30 years’ experience in public policy and communications. He grew up on a mixed farm in southwest Kansas, studied animal science at university and has worked in Washington DC for lobby groups including the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, as well as the House of Representatives agriculture committee. He joined the AFBF in 2011.

Andrew Hoggard
Federated Farmers of New Zealand president
Andrew Hoggard is a dairy farmer from Kiwitea in the Manawatu region of New Zealand’s North Island where he milks up to 550 cows. He was elected president of the Federated Farmers of New Zealand in July this year. At a Federated Farmers board level his policy responsibilities include climate change, science and innovation, and food safety. He is a former Federated Farmers’ vice president and dairy committee president.

Tom Martin
UK farmer and social-media influencer
Tom Martin is a farmer from near Peterborough in the English county of Cambridgeshire. After completing a natural science degree and a masters in business management, he worked in London for several years before returning to the family farm, where he and wife Lisa run a sheep and cropping enterprise. Passionate about ag, ‘Farmer Tom’ launched the ‘FaceTime a Farmer’ initiative 2016 to link farmers with schools.

Emma Germano (facilitator)
Victorian Farmers Federation vice president
Emma Germano is the managing director of her family’s mixed-farming operation in Victoria’s Gippsland region that produces brassica, potato and fodder crops, lamb and beef and supplies its own on-farm shop. Emma was awarded a Nuffield scholarship in 2014 to study global export opportunities for Australian farmers. She is currently the horticulture and vice president of the Victorian Farmers Federation.
