Nominations are now open to recognise regional Victoria’s leading and long-serving journalists, photographers and other media veterans as part of a special Rural Press Club of Victoria event.
With the RPCV set to celebrate its 60th anniversary in 2026, the club is hosting a Lifetime Achievement Awards to mark the occasion, set to be held in Melbourne in March.
The RPCV is calling for media professionals and the general public to nominate someone who has committed their career to regional Victorian media. Eligible candidates can be veteran journalists, editors, photographers, sub-editors, camera operators, compositors, advertising professionals or other long-serving staff who have made a noteworthy contribution to the sector
RPCV president Kellie Lazzaro said the Lifetime Achivement Awards were a chance to celebrate some of the regional media industry’s finest.
“Journalism is a trade in many ways, and lots of us have had the benefit of mentorship, newsroom support and camaraderie,”
“This is a chance to recognise the leaders in our industry, including those who’ve done so much behind the scenes.”
Nominations can be made online via the RPCV website until February 10. Entrants must provide the name and contact details of both the nominee and the nominator. Entrants also need to write an explanation of no more than 250 words, summarising the career of the potential award recipient. The award recipient must have capacity to attend the March event.
Nominations will be reviewed by the committee in February and winners notified in the weeks before the function. The Lifetime Achievement Awards will be run separately to the RPCV’s annual journalism and photography awards, which is scheduled for later in 2026. This new initiative is also separate to the RPCV’s life membership, which recognises the efforts of long-standing and noteworthy committee members.
Nominations close at 11.50pm, 10 February 2026.
Nominations can only be made by current RPCV members.
