Webinar: Reporting on Emergency Animal Disease Outbreaks

Webinar: Reporting on Emergency Animal Disease Outbreaks

We are excited to invite you to an online workshop from 2.30pm to 3.30pm on Friday 5 May, about what you need to know before reporting on an emergency animal disease outbreak.

In partnership with Agriculture Victoria, this event is an opportunity for Victorian journalists and media representatives to:

  • Learn how authorities respond to an outbreak and what their goals and procedures are.
  • Understand what biosecurity measures you can follow when reporting.
  • Prepare for what your role might be in an outbreak.
  • Ask panellists questions at the end.

This webinar presents a unique opportunity to hear from Victorian Chief Veterinary Officer Graeme Cooke. He will provide an update on the current foot-and-mouth disease and lumpy skin disease risks faced by Australia and share his first-hand experience working in the UK during the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak in 2001.

Moderated by ABC Rural reporter Jane McNaughton, participants can also hear from Victorian producer Tim Kingma, and Agriculture Victoria’s Chief Executive Matt Lowe and Justine Severin from the media team.

You must register in advance to receive the Zoom link for this workshop.

We look forward to welcoming Victorian journalists and media representatives at this event.

Our panellists

  • Graeme Cooke –  Victorian Chief Veterinary Officer
  • Tim Kingma – Victorian producer
  • Matt Lowe – Agriculture Victoria Chief Executive
  • Justine Severin – Agriculture Victoria media team
