Rural and Regional Journalism and Photography Awards

Rural and regional media awards night heads to country Victoria in 2022

Entries have opened for the Rural Press Club of Victoria’s 2022 Rural and Regional Journalism and Photography Awards.

The annual competition celebrates quality rural and regional media by showcasing the best journalism and photography from across Victoria and Tasmania.

To celebrate the past 12 months, award winners will be announced at a formal function in central Victoria on Friday, September 30.

RPCV president Bryce Eishold said it would be the first time in three years the event would be held in person.

“After our events were cancelled in 2020 and 2021, the Rural Press Club of Victoria is pleased to announce its annual awards night will be held in Ballarat for the first time in the club’s history,” Mr Eishold said.

“The RPCV is committed to supporting and showcasing the work of rural and regional journalists and photographers.

“To support regional hospitality businesses in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the RPCV will hold its event in regional Victoria on September 30, moving away from metropolitan Melbourne.”

Mr Eishold said the night would recognise media outlets and industry professionals who had navigated a challenging two years.

“Despite these challenges, our journalist and photography members have continued to show resilience and covered the important issues at the forefront of our regional communities,” he said.

To enter the awards, journalists and photographers must be members of the RPCV.

Membership is available through the RPCV website.

Eligible work for the awards must have been published or broadcast from July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022.

Entries close Friday, August 12 at 5pm AEST. Unfortunately, no extensions will be granted.

The prestigious titles of Journalist and Photographer of the Year will be announced at the event, while newspapers, radio and television stations can compete for the hotly-contested Media Outlet of the Year.

More details about the awards presentation will be available in coming weeks when the event tickets go on sale.
